CDC Says Salmonella Tainted Pet Food Making People Sick

According to the CDC, pet food contaminated with salmonella is responsible for making more than 70 people very sick, the majority of them young children.
The Pensyllvania plant responsible for providing the contaminated pet food has been closed, but the CDC says that pet owners may still have the tainted food in their homes.
The food in question was manufactured by Mars Petcare U.S, and a list of the effected products can be found here

The food was contaminated with a very rare strain of salmonella known as Salmonella enterica serotype Schwarzengrund.
If handled by the very young, or very old, it can result in bloody diarrhea and vomiting.
“Dry pet food has a 1-year shelf life. Contaminated products identified in recalls might still be in the homes of purchasers and could cause illness. Persons who have these products should not use them to feed their pets but should discard them or return them to the store,” the CDC said in its weekly report.
Nobody has died from handling the pet food, and no pets have been reported dead after eating it.
