When people fly, their regular sleeping pattern may become altered if the flight is of a long duration, thus when they reach their destination, for a couple of days after arriving, they are often sleepy at times of day when they would not normally be.

Tasimelteon works by altering the bodys’ sleeping hormone called melatonin and work better, and is reportedly healthier for you than current drugs of choice.

In a trial of the drug, 450 people were randomly assigned to take the drug or a placebo pill.

The participants went to bed 5 hours earlier than normal, to simulate crossing into another time zone.

Those participants who took Tasimelteon enjoyed up to 2 hours extra of sleep than those taking the placebo.

It is not yet known when the drug will be submitted for regulatory approval.
