After Apple suggested that all Mac users run an antivirus program to make sure their computers are free of viruses, the company retracted that suggestion.

The suggestion was found on the company’s knowledge base as a result of a support ticket.

According to Apple, running multiple antivirus programs on Macs is not very smart, and they have removed the suggestion from their help section on their site.

“We have removed the KnowledgeBase article because it was old and inaccurate,” Apple spokesman Bill Evans, explained for Macworld. “The Mac is designed with built-in technologies that provide protection against malicious software and security threats right out of the box,” he added.

To this point, there are no known viruses that are able to exploit Mac computers.
