Six people have been arrested in the US for reportedly smuggling elephant ivory into the country via Kennedy International Airport in New York
Six people have been arrested in the US for reportedly smuggling elephant ivory into the country via Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Not many details are known about the arrests, and subsequent charges that will be filed, but what is known is that the arrests were made in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Texas.

The act of importing elephant ivory into the United States has been a criminal offense since 1976, and importing of the popular by-product is the main reason for the declining elephant population.

The ivory was disguised, covered in clay and resin-like substances to mask its true appearance.

The defendants are listed as: Kemo Sylla, 32, Seidou Mfomboutmoun, 35, Mamadi Doumbouya, 39, Bandjan Sidime, 39, Drissa Diane, 43, and Mamadou Kone, 43.

    I am so tired of hearing of people smuggling in Ivory. I wish elephants and tigers (along with other animals) would be left alone.
