Advisory Panel Weigh Pros And Cons Of Asthma Drugs

The FDA has stated that there are risks with asthma drugs that simply can not be ignored.
One such drug is called Serevent, and according to the FDA they have received numerous reports of serious side effects in asthma patients taking this drug to control their condition.
GlaxoSmithKline makes Serevent, which works by relaxing the muscles around the airway, making it easier for a person to breathe.
All asthma drugs come equipped with a warning label that lists possible side effects associated with taking them, but the FDA says that this is not enough, and are planning to further investigate the class of drugs.
An advisory panel is meeting to try to determine if long acting asthma drugs are worth having on the market, due to the serious side effect risk that they pose to patients.
“Removal of inhaled LABAs from the market as a treatment for asthma is a way of managing the risk of these drugs, but would be an extreme approach that could be problematic,” wrote Dr. Badrul Chowdhury in a memo.
