It is being reported that the Arena Football League has canceled its 2008/2009 football season, but will start up again the year following.

The league, which is comprised of 16 teams, was first founded back in 1987, and is similar to the outside game except for a couple of key differences.

In the arena version of the game, there is no punter, and teams must go for it on 4th down, instead of kicking the ball away to the other team.

According to reports, the league needs a year to fix their economic model, thus the year break.

“Every owner in the AFL is strongly committed to the league, the game, and, most importantly, the fans,” acting commissioner Ed Policy said in a statement.

“Owners, however, recognize that, especially in light of the current unprecedented economic climate, the AFL, as a business enterprise, needs to be restructured.”
