Results of a new U.S. study show that a low-glycemic index diet makes it easier for type two diabetics to control their insulin levels.

Previous to this new study’s findings, many experts were of the belief that a diet high in fiber was the best option for type two diabetes patients but this appears to be not the case at all.

For the study, researchers analyzed 210 type two diabetes patients, randomly assigning them to either a diet high in fiber or one of a low-glycemic index.

The researchers noted that the participants on the low-GI diet experienced a lower rate of insulin secretion compared to the fiber diet group, making it easier for them to control their own blood glucose levels.

The study is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
