Diabetes Patients Experience Slight Decline in Brain Function

Results of a new study show that brain function may begin declining early in diabetes patients.
The study, by researchers from Canada shows that this is the case even if the disease is monitored closely and kept in check.
The Canadian study was conducted on more than 500 adults between the age of 53 to 90, some of whom were diabetic.
Researchers noted that on tests of reaction times, all the study participants faired the same.
On tasks requiring quick verbal responses, the diabetes patients took longer to respond than the non diabetes patients.
“There could be some ways to compensate for these declines, at least early and with proper management,” said lead researcher Roger A. Dixon, PhD, at the University of Alberta.
