Researchers Find Genetic Link Between Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder

January 16 - Researchers are stating that they have located a genetic link between 2 very serious mental health diseases.
They say a genetic link between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder indeed exists and that they have been able to pinpoint it.
According to the researchers, people with either disorder have similar symptoms, and viewing the two conditions as separate entities could be a mistake.
The researchers from Sweden, analyzed more than 9 million people treated for either mental health condition from as far back as the 70’s.
They realized that in the majority of cases, no matter which mental health condition a patient had, their symptoms exhibited, often were a byproduct of the other one.
The researchers also noted that parents and children of family members with one of the conditions, were also at an increased risk of developing one or the other.
