January 19 (Ottawa) A Windows worm is sweeping across the internet, infecting millions of computers in its wake.

The worm is known as the Conficker, and despite a patch being released to protect windows users from it, it is believed that up to 9 million computers are infected.

Microsoft originally noticed the presence of the annoying little virus back in October, but has been unable to fully stop it.

The worm is spread via low security networks, and by computers whose users have not updated their systems with critical patches.

In a statement, F-Secure’s Toni Kovunen said:

“Right now, we’re seeing hundreds of thousands of unique IP addresses connecting to the domains we’ve registered.”

This as you may guess is very bad, and dangerous for those people who are housing sensative information on their computers.

Microsoft have stated that the majority of known infections are being seen in computers from the Middle East, mainly China.
