Acne Medication Kills Teen

Boston - It isn’t uncommon for young men to experience problems with acne. Shaun Jones, at the tender age of 14, did just that, and passed away shortly after his first dose of medication.
In a tragedy that is being called rare, even random, Shaun’s parents are left wondering what happened, and how to proceed.
When Shaun and his mother bought the medication, the pharmacy informed them they were out of the standard medication, but had a substitute that was exactly the same. The drugs they bought did not come with the required safety packet. Shaun’s parents are considering pursuing a civil case against medical authorities.
Doctors say Shaun died of an acute reaction to minocycline hydrochloride, the active ingredients in the medication. His face and larynx were swollen at the time of death, and doctors say he had early signs of pneumonia. The actual cause of his death is still a bit of a mystery.
Authorities say there have been no other deaths involving this drug anywhere else in the world, and that it is more than a one in a million occurrence.
