New York - Radio host Don Imus used his microphone on Monday morning to announce to his audience that he has begun a battle fighting prostate cancer. The longtime radio personality, who is now 68 years old, let his listeners know that he had been diagnosed with state II of the disease.

According to news sources such as Entertainment Weekly and Fox News Imus did not offer his listeners, and media outlets, any type of prognosis of treating his illness other than saying he was sure that his doctors would help him beat the disease.

In 2007 Imus made National headlines by referring to the Rutger’s women’s basketball team live on the air as “nappy-headed hos.” The comment started a nationwide debate and led to an outcry that eventually forced him off his radio and simulcast TV show with longtime employer CBS and MSNBC. Imus returned to the airways with ABC and a similar formatted show titled Imus in the Morning.

Don Imus has long been known for not only his outspoken style of hosting a radio show but also his charitable deeds including his ranch, The Imus Ranch, for children stricken with cancer and those fighting other serious illnesses.
